5 tips for a smooth Winchester house move

We say ‘less stressful’ because let’s face it, moving house is probably one of the most stressful life events there is. So, whilst an entirely stress-free move to Winchester might not be on the cards, there are many things you can do to ensure that your house move goes smoothly and doesn’t feel like such a huge chore. From self storage to takeaways, we cover some of the top tips to help you move to Winchester with ease.

Tip 1 – Declutter

Prior to moving it’s always a good idea to give your current home a good clear out. From garages and under stairs cupboards, to lofts and sheds, it’s amazing what accumulates in your home. You only have to head to the Winchester tip or the local charity shops to see how much people get rid of during a house move! But don’t be tempted to start buying unnecessary items whilst you’re there, you’re trying to declutter not accumulate clutter.

Tip 2 – Early bird

The key to packing is to start early. Think about your house move logically and don’t pack your boxes too heavy. Start with the items you won’t be using in the run up to your move
and then, as the move date approaches, pack up the rest, leaving essential items in one box (think kettle and teabags!).

Tip 3 – A cuppa

Speaking of essential items, it’s always a good idea to pack an emergency box of items that you KNOW you’ll need. Despite the fact that Winchester has an abundance of great coffee shops (coffee shops aplenty here!), you’ll want that kettle close to hand, as well as tea bags, milk, biscuits – and don’t forget your toothbrush and loo roll!

Tip 4 – Self storage

Whether you’re moving into a smaller place, going into rented for a short while or just don’t know what to do with all the furniture you currently have, then self storage is a great
solution. It’s a flexible way to store all your items in a safe, secure place so your new home doesn’t become cluttered. And you can access your items at a time that suits you. Just choose the self storage unit size that suits you – a low cost way to store the items you can’t part with or don’t yet know where to put.

Tip 5 – Treat yourself

One thing that always makes a house move feel so much better is that, once you’ve finished – you’re moved in, begun the unpacking (or at least put the beds up), you can treat yourself to a takeaway. No one should have to move house AND cook – and you’ll find some really great takeaway places in and around Winchester.
